Welcome to the Josiah Brunson Chapter NSDAR

We are based in Trussville, Alabama, and currently have 50 members from the surrounding area, including Jefferson, St. Clair, and Blount counties. Our chapter meets at 10:30 a. m. on the first Saturday of each month September through May. Guests are welcome.

Chapter projects, events, and programs are designed to promote education, patriotism, and historic preservation. Members are encouraged to identify opportunities for service in their own communities, as well as participate in local and state events. Recent chapter activities include:

  • providing a homemade Easter dinner meal for veterans at Three Hots & A Cot
  • arranging for two "Quilts of Valor" to be presented to Vietnam veterans
  • donating sets of Alabama Roots Biography Series books to four area schools
  • adopting a classroom at the Kate Duncan Smith DAR School
  • planting flowers and donating needed items to a local senior citizen center

In addition to these chapter projects many of our members participated in local and state events including:

  • welcoming new citizens at a naturalization ceremony
  • supporting families and friends at a National Guard Deployment Ceremony
  • participating in the Blue Star Salute honoring active United States military personnel and their families

Programs last year included a conservation program by a certified beekeeper, a natural yarn and spinning wheel demonstration, and a presentation on the Battle of King's Mountain. This year's programs and events will include:

  • the grave marking of a Revolutionary War patriot
  • a presentation by a Purple Heart recipient
  • personal memories and stories by a WWII WAVE
